We are pleased to have LuAnn Luedtke as our speaker at our March meeting. So many of you have had your quilts quilted by LuAnn. Following is a little bit about LuAnn’s quilting journey. She will be talking about how she gets her inspiration for a quilting design on quilts.
I started sewing when I was about 10 years old. I made a lot of my clothes growing up so sewing was not new to me. My daughter wouldn’t wear store bought clothes when she was young because she hated the tags. Then I had a long dry spell of not sewing for about 20 years before I started quilting. I got interested in quilting about 13 years ago. It was a totally new experience. Piecing was no problem since I had a history of sewing. I loved how you could sew blocks together, then cut them up and resew them into a totally cool pattern. Quilting was totally new to me. I thought that everyone who made quilts also did their own quilting, so I set out to learn how to quilt. I watched plenty of YouTube videos and started practicing by making lap quilts for my little dog. I never took any classes in quilting because I wanted to do my own thing and not have to worry about following any rules. That’s it. Because I thought everyone did their own quilting I had no fear of it: just a lot of determination. Now it is my favorite part of making quilts. I do all free motion and have found that it is my happy place. I do semi custom and custom quilting and love a challenge. I thank you all for letting me quilt your quilts for you. There is so much talent in this guild.
